The following students won awards in the American Legion essay contest. Grades 3-4: Kayla McHale, first place; Kim Mwangi, first runner-up; and Carly MacDonald, third runner-up. Tara Strackhouse was the winner for grades 7-8 for Post 910.
Three students from St. Peter School, Belleville were recipients of the American Legion Post #299 awards presented in May by Mr. Zicari and Mr. Pribula. The American Legion coloring contest winners were Alan Konopka Grade 4, and Brianna Garcia, Grade 4, who won Local/County. Mark Vintayen, Grade 8, won local/county and was awarded first place in the State of NJ for the American Legion essay contest. Mark Vintayen will be honored at the Chandelier on Saturday, May 18. Congratulations and great job!
American Legion Essay Contest 2012 - University at Buffalo
is the daughter of Dianne Single. Cassidy is a 2014 graduate of Forest Hills and will be attending Bucknell University pursuing cell biology/biochemistry degree with pre-med certification. Academic honors include: Academic Highest Honor Roll and outstanding Student Award 9th – 12th, National Honor Society President, Spanish Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society President, Lions Club Outstanding Girl Award, Johnstown Exchange Club Student of the Month and the American Legion essay contest winner. School and community activities include principle violist of the Johnstown Symphony Youth Orchestra Varsity Rifle Team, Student Council Historian, Interact Club, Gifted Individualized Education Program and the open heart surgery observation program. In her spare time Cassidy volunteers at Memorial Medical Center, St. Benedict Church Liturgical Ensemble, Dunlo American Legion Veteran’s Memorial caretaker and performs viola for residents at St. Jude’s Assisted Living Home.
